Entertainment Weekly's "The Avengers" Set Photos Featuring Bobblehead ScarJo

We are all excited for the ultimate superhero team up aren't we? Okay. Now, dig on these exclusive set photos from Entertaintment Weekly featuring EVERYBODY.

This looks great, but fuck - what is wrong with Thor's nose (bad photoshopping), Captain America looking awfully confused, ScarJo's bobblehead and Mark Ruffallo with that stare?

Okay, that's pretty cool stuff - everyone together in one room, Chris Evans in that perfect man-out-of-time civilian outfit, and finally Samuel L. Jackson gets to fire a weapon (it took him 4 feature films to do that, shit).

But the best part of this tease are these pictures of the oh so fine Scarett Johansson (whose nude photos were leaked for everybody to see a couple of weeks ago):

Damn. Even the buildings can't resist. ScarJo's causing a lot of explosions all over the place by just standing there. Must be the awesome bum.

When Are We Going To See the "Proton Cannon" In The Iron Man Films?

The Proton Cannon
One friend asked me regarding this one, and I just laughed at it.

Anybody who has played Marvel vs Capcom certainly knows what the Proton Cannon is: its the uber-big sucka that comes outta nowhere via a hologram of some sort used by Iron Man to exterminate his enemies right out of the face of God's green earth. And from the looks of it, its a pretty-bad ass weapon.

As Justin Hammer said in Iron Man 2: "it has the ability to bust the bunker under the bunker you just busted."  Yeah, that sums it up.

Here's the cannon in action:

I know what you're thinking. You wanna see this damn thing in the movies. While that might sound a very good idea and good looking on the screen, I don't think it will happen.

Marvel Studios has the Iron Man franchise pegged on to "reality" - meaning, they're trying their very best to make it as realistic as possible. Can a superior tech like this help any future Iron Man film gig in doing that?

I don't think so.

But then I may be wrong too. We might see this in Iron Man 3. What do you guys think?

Too Awesome Not To Watch: Iron Man's Secret Identity Revealed!

Iron Man appeared as guest in a Taiwan high school to give a heartwarming speech to the graduating students. He came out after playing a short video from taken from the beginning of Iron Man 2, where Tony Stark jumps off the plane before delivering his message to thousands of screaming fans at Stark Expo.

This guy's costume is ridiculously awesome, but what's even more AWESOME is the fact that the guy in the Iron Man suit is.... okay, just watch the video.

I'm pretty sure the students will never forget their experience.

Nostalgia Bytes: Remembering Captain America's Final Justice

Back when I was addicted to the first Playstation, one of my favorite games was Marvel vs Capcom 2. The game has it all: you can get to build a team of all your favorite super-heroes and characters and pit it against the AI's (artificial intelligence) team or even better, play it against your friend's own and see who is better. Then you can talk trash everytime you win, which was always the best part (admit it).

I always used Captain America in every team that I had mainly because he is such a bad-ass character that has three of the best (arguably) moves in the game. There's the Hyper Charging Star (which is basically Cap charging behind a flaming shield), Stars and Stripes (which is a "Shoryuken"-type shield uppercut) and finally, my favorite super move of all: Final Justice - a move which can sometimes cheat a counter-team combo and the only move that can hurt a familiar Kryptonian. Seriously. Watch.

Remember Action Comics #900? Captain America didn't like that.

In short, Cap doesn't give a fuck. He doesn't play cute and he will kick your butt and ram your head to the floor until it explodes like a grenade. Plus, he always WINS the war for his team in the with the ultimate swag using Final Justice. Iron Man and Thor don't even come close. Here's an example:

'The Avengers 12.1' Preview Covers Doesn't Entice Me At All

Marvel has another  Avengers comic book available on the shelves right now, especially made for newbies who are just starting to delve into the Marvel Universe and unsure on where to start on reading about their all-time favorite characters like Iron Man, Thor, Spider-Man and Captain America to name a few.

The Avengers 12.1,  written by one of my favorite Marvel writer-artist tandems in  Brian Michael Bendis and  Bryan Hitch, with the latter being memorable for doing such a splendid job on his run on the Ultimates vol 1 and 2. He's the guy with the "photo-realistic art" that made reading the Ultimates like watching/reading a film. And with the influx of comic book film adaptations lately, this looks like a good move by Marvel in getting new readers joining the bandwagon.

But let me focus on something entirely different here:  I cannot help but wonder what happened to Mr. Hitch while illustrating these covers for his latest project? Take a look:

Wolverine with a beak-like nose? Thor's hammer looking clumsy? Inconsistent and shitty facial expressions? And what's up with their poses? Honestly, this is not enticing me to get this series at all. It doesn't seem like Hitch is on his game here,  but I'll give it a shot and see if Bendis' story could turn it around.

Still... Fuck Wolverine in that 2nd cover. He's like Penguin with the claws.

The Iron Man "Mark 2 Armor" Action Figure From Hot Toys

If you watched Iron Man 2, you definitely remember that scene where Rhodey gets the unused Mark 2 suit and then goes on to get it toe to toe with a drunk Tony Stark who's wearing the red-and-gold armor, right?

Guess what, Hot Toys has that same silver armor in the movies that you can now take to your home, disassemble it (yes, just like what they did in the flick) to see the nerve-wracking details of the armor, and then show it off to your friends who would drool in envy once they see the wonderful piece of Iron Man badassery you have in your hands:

Holy crap. That's one hell of a toy right there. Damn, that's so cool!

Check it out at TOYSREVIL.

Early Black Comic Book Heroes: Misty Knight (1/6)

During Black History Month 2011 Out Of This World will feature some of the earliest black superheroes in comics, starting with Misty Knight. Misty's first appearance in comics was as an 'extra' in Marvel Team-Up 1 (March 1972), but her identity was unknown to readers at the time. On her way to a Christmas party in Jersey, Misty is mugged by a couple of racially integrated thugs, fortunately for her but not for the crooks, just as Spidey and the Human Torch happen to be passing by in their search for the Sandman.

That first appearance was retconned into the Marvel universe at a later date, in a story arc that begins to include Misty starting with Marvel Premiere 20 (Jan 1975, written by Tony Isabella), featuring Iron Fist. Here we see Colleen Wing referring to her business partner, Misty.

In the next ish Iron Fist returns to Professor Wing's brownstone to find the aftermath of a battle. He's greeted by a suspicious Misty Knight, whose attack takes some fending off. Iron Fist temporarily subdues Misty, but the urgency of his mission means that at this point he doesn't have the luxury of sufficient time to wait around and get to know her better.

The next time Misty and Iron Fist meet (Iron Fist 1, Nov 1975, Claremont/Byrne), it's obvious she's attracted to him, as evidenced by the romantic kung-fu kick to the jaw that she greets him with. By now her hair has grown into a lovely full afro, and she's costumed up. They've converged in their hunt for the kidnapped Colleen Wing. Misty's wondering why her contact, an employee of Tony Stark, hasn't showed, when gunshots lead her to his corpse. It just so happens that an access key that Iron Fist has, that was taken off one of Colleen's kidnappers, lets them into a powerful computer that can help them locate her.

Now you don't have to be clairvoyant to deduce that, if this is all going on in a Stark installation, the security system is going to alert Iron Man!

The way it looks is that Iron Fist and Misty are the ones who have killed Stark's employee - cue battle between Iron Fist and Iron Man! It turns out though that the employee/Misty's contact isn't dead after all, and in fact he's a spy working for the enemy. This whole clash between the heroes was a set up, planned so that some or all would perish. Still no Colleen, but Iron Man has been introduced to two new heroes on the block.

The readers had to be patient for the retcon that links all of this back to Marvel Team-up 1. Chronologically Misty was next going to appear in some of Marvel's b&w magazines, as we'll see in the next installment of Out Of This World's review of Misty's early career in comics.

Hello Kitty Crossovers To Comic Books and Movies With Joseph Senior's Outrageously Cool Designs

I was never a fan of Hello Kitty, but I have to admit that the character is cute. And it just got to over-the-top level cute after I stumbled to Joseph Senior's (aka yodaflicker) flickr page filled with incredible creative designs, telling us that Hello Kitty could be customized to become the baddest and coolest toy that even the biggest Kitty hater out there would like. He's got a vast collection of these featuring Batman, Iron Man, Hit Girl, Star Wars and many more which I thought were real life custom made toys.

Unfortunately, these are not true customized toys and are merely photoshopped designs, but still, they make for some great ideas in the future.  Maybe Sanrio will do it someday (come on guys, you know you want these). And I have to say, I'm kind of digging Hello Kitty right now as much as I don't want to.

Make sure that you show some love for his work by visiting his flickr account through the links above but for the meantime, check out my favorites after the jump:

Where's Supergirl/Superman? *sad*
