Hamzig IV

The current issue of Roctober has been out for a couple months now so I guess it's okay to post up this latest Hamzig installment as published therein. If you haven't picked up Roctober #48 yet, get over to www.roctober.com and grab it, cuz it's yet another king-sized cornucopia of the wildest weirdness (un)popular culture has to offer. Should have some more new stuff to post in the next few days so... Stay tuned for MORE ACTION!

God Kills

Here's the first page of one of the stories I drew for the first issue of Nix Comics Quarterly. Sorry I can't post the whole thing but we do need people to actually buy the mag so we can keep putting out new issues. This is the longest comix story I've done in several years and my first ever attempt at coloring a multi-page story. I had a lotta fun drawing this and hopefully I'll be contributing more stuff to future issues of Nix. Stay tuned for MORE ACTION!

Nix For Kix

Here's the cover art for Nix Comics Quarterly #1, due out in January 2011. I'm also gonna have 5 pages of comix in this issue, all written by Nix editor Ken Eppstein. I'm just finishing a 4 page story called "Man Loves, God Kills?" which I think is the best comix work I've ever done. I'll put up a sample page or two once I get 'em all wrapped up. Stay tuned for MORE ACTION!

It's A Long Way Back To Germany

I thought I had posted this one long ago but apparently not. It's a poster I did a couple years back for one of the shows on Electric Frankenstein's 2008 German tour. My idea here was to combine rock poster art with comix, an approach that I plan to keep experimenting with. Stay tuned for MORE ACTION!

Back On The Crack

Here are a couple of funny li'l comical strips featuring that beloved mentally deficient character, Crack Head. These have been running occasionally in good old Roctober magazine. Stay tuned for MORE ACTION!

Hamzig III: How The Gods Kill... Time

This completes the run of Hamzig strips to date. I'm working on a new one for the next issue of Roctober right now, and they will continue to appear in each issue of that excellent zine as long as editor Jake is willing to put up with me. Stay tuned for MORE ACTION!

Hamzig II: I Love Lucifuge

By Crom, here are a couple more Hamzig strips whether you want 'em or not. Stay tuned for MORE ACTION!

Hamzig

For the past couple of years I've been doing a li'l comic strip for Roctober chronicling the adventures of diminutive Goth rock warrior Hamzig. Here are the first 2 strips. I'll post the rest of 'em over the next couple of days. Stay tuned for MORE ACTION!

Tripmaker

Inspired by '60s fuzz punk and heavy reading of underground comix at an impressionable age, Tripmaker is possibly the best comic strip I've ever done. This one was widely published, appearing in Roctober, Misty Lane, Fiesta Germany and possibly one or two other zines. Needless to say this was inspired by the classic song of the same name from the second album by The Seeds. I had a chance to send a copy of this strip to Sky Saxon a few years ago but unfortunately he didn't share his thoughts about it with me. Stay tuned for MORE LYSERGIC ACID ACTION!

Let's Have A Party!

Here's my comic strip tribute to rockabilly/country legend Wanda Jackson, drawn on the occasion of her induction into Roctober magazine's Hall Of Dynamic Greatness back in 1999. The drawing appeared as part of an elaborate 32 page calendar insert in issue #26 of Roctober. Stay tuned for MORE HOT DOG, THAT MADE HIM MAD ACTION!

Saturday The 14th

Here's a wacky little comic strip I drew some years back. It was first published in issue #8 of Winnipeg's excellent alt comix anthology Sunburn, way back in the summer of 1998. I'm pretty sure it appeared in another zine or two back around that time but I couldn't tell you what or where without a lotta diggin' through my archives which I don't have time to do right now. More comix stuff comin' soon. Stay tuned for MORE ACTION!

Hog Maw Funnies

My buddy Cédric runs the Hog Maw Records label over there in France, bringing us big servings of the wildest, most drunken rockabilly around with side orders of primitive garage and blues action on the menu as well. He's put out great records by Mack Stevens, Hasil Adkins and a bunch more including a savage comp of ultra-obscure original rockabilly entitled Raw Meat. Lately he's been scouring the backwoods of Canada for raw talent and has signed up two stompin' and rockin' one man combos, Bloodshot Bill and Slim Sandy. I put together this comic strip ad last year to help him spread the word about all this fine as wine wax and it came out almost as primitive and semi-incoherent as the music it is supposed to be promoting. It's been printed in Dig It! and Blue Suede News, maybe some other places too. Should be some cool new Hog Maw releases out real soon. Maybe it's time for chapter 2 of Hog Maw Funnies? Stay tuned for MORE ACTION!

I'm Bugged At My Old Man

Another computer cut'n'paste quickie, this strip was inspired by reading Steven Gaines' Heroes & Villains, The True Story Of The Beach Boys. I guess you'd have to know a bit about the Wilson brothers and their lovable dad to really get the joke. Anyway this one was published in Roctober #44. Stay tuned for MORE ACTION!

Booze Is The Only Answer

This gag seemed to lend itself to a minimalistic approach so it was all cut and pasted together in Photoshop using 4 simple drawings plus computer fonts for the lettering. Seems like a great way to free up more time for drinkin'. Thanks to Woody Woodbury for inspiration. Published in Roctober #39. More stuff coming as soon as I can get this bottle to come loose from my lips. Stay tuned for MORE ACTION!

One Way

Speaking of comix, time to get some in here. I've shamefully neglected the form since the demise of Rockin' Bones way back when. My sporadic attempts to "get back into comix" haven't amounted to much (yet) but over the years a smattering of new material has appeared here and there. This is one of my better sequential art efforts, I think. I thought it had first appeared in the cool local alt comix publication Sunburn back in the '90s but I didn't come across it while taking a quick glance through all the back issues this morning. Maybe it was in Roctober? I'll have to update this post when I get it figured out. UPDATE: It doesn't seem to be in Roctober either. Maybe this comic strip doesn't even exist?!! Oh well... Stay tuned for MORE ACTION!

I Think Up Demons For You

I took an animation course about 10 years ago and one of the kids in my class asked if I would pencil a drawing for him so he could try his hand at inking. I went home and sketched this up that very evening. I gave it to him but never got to see the finished product. A couple of years ago I decided to finish it myself so I traced it from a photocopy and here be the result. The girl w/sawed-off shotgun is a character of mine called Vikki Van Helsing: Monster Stalker and one of these days I am going to start work on some of the comic stories that she is going to star in. Don't hold your breath while waiting to see those but do... Stay tuned for MORE ACTION!
